Focusing on particular abilities does not pigeonhole you into specific vocations. Burly, agile, learned, prudent, winsome—you can focus on these traits for any life-calling, without sacrificing combat effectiveness.

As a tribute to human freedom, you will enjoy a pool of energy points allowing you to defy undesirable situations and dice rolls—yet as an acknowledgement of human responsibility, this pool is also limited.

Your magical objects will grow in power with your character, so you do not have to discard your favorite magic sword, wand, cloak, ring, baldric or bauble simply because you found a more powerful one during your travels.

Instead of coercing you into hardline stances on controversial issues, Alpengard will encourage you to thoroughly think through such topics—and discuss them with other game participants rationally and respectfully.

Alpengard worlds may be full of imaginary creatures and places, but the ecologies and economies still make sense. Monster sizes and numbers hinge upon available food sources. Taxes, regulations, supply and demand affect commerce.
